Y’know, this holier-than-thou attitude is so uncalled for. Putting their musical up for free on youtube is not Starkid “being nice.” For one, it’s copyrighted material so they can’t charge for it. Secondly, putting it up for free generates more exposure. More exposure means generating more income — mostly from live show profits, but also from merchandise. Don’t act like them putting this musical on Youtube is some generous act on Starkid’s behalf. Now that they’re so famous, TRUST ME, they’re making money. They’re about to sell out venues all across America at a MINIMUM of 30 bucks a pop, with meet & greet tickets ranging from 80 to 125 bucks. Believe me, they KNOW how to get money from their fans.
You’re right that people should buy the soundtrack if they can afford it, and no, I am not necessarily encouraging piracy, however, the majority of Starkid’s fanbase are teenagers who live at home with no financial responsibilities of their own. I can’t ~*scrounge up 10 bucks*~ for their soundtrack, as much as I’d like to, because that’s 2 days worth of food for me. I’m on an unbelievably tight budget and as most Starkid fans will eventually find out, being a grown-up is hard. And expensive. So unfortunately, I will have to go without. I just don’t think chastising others for requesting the free download is the right move.
